A meticulously sampled Yamaha C3 grand piano that recreates the instrument’s natural sound and also creates new, abstract soundscapes.

With 23 velocity layers and eight round robins for the mechanical sounds, CHROMA reproduces the sound of the Yamaha C3 with great realism, while four freely adjustable microphone positions (A/B, X/Y, ORTF and submic) and adjustable note-on, note-off and pedal noises refine the result. Besides traditional playing, the piano was also recorded with mallets, brushes, palm mutes, e-bow and chains, all combinable within the instrument. An adjustable velocity curve, parameters such as attack, decay, delay, density, octavation, detune and sample start, and an engine inspired by TIME TEXTURES with full mod wheel support also make CHROMA a sound design tool.
