The Bosendorfer 290 from the Quantum Leap Pianos collection is a richly detailed sampled piano with a particularly mellow, smooth sound.

Far mellower than the Steinway D, the Bosendorfer 290 excels in light, bouncy passages as well as legato, sustained playing, and focuses on buttery smooth performances rather than brilliance. Engaging the sustain pedal increases this smoothness even further and gives the instrument great power and richness. Sustain, repetitions, soft pedal and staccato were sampled with many velocity layers, complemented by pedal resonance and release samples. Recording took place in a proper piano environment with vintage Neumann microphones, Meitner AD converters and a vintage Neve 8078 console.
