FiDef was developed in the USA by FideliQuest and first licensed by MAAT for thEQblue; FiDef JENtwo makes the same algorithm available as a dedicated plug-in. Unlike dither, the very quiet broadband signal is correlated with the source and added to the music without altering it, so ITU 1770 loudness readings and the power spectrum stay unchanged. According to the developer, FiDef can increase definition, detail, intelligibility, soundstage width and depth, and above all the listener’s emotional engagement. Five renameable profiles with different effects are provided, with typical applications ranging from mixing, mastering and broadcast to games, sound design, forensics and restoration.
