Glass Beach lies near Fort Bragg on the northern coast of California: where rubbish was dumped into the sea until 1967, tides and waves have ground the remaining broken glass into millions of small beads that create a remarkable effervescent sound in the surf. Soundiron recorded delicate glass hits, taps, clicks, steps and scrapes there and captured sea and bay ambiences – from surf and tide pools to marshes, wharf scenes with sea lions and seagulls, sea caves and the Wave Organ, an aquatic sound sculpture near San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. Sound-designed pads and FX presets, plus four sound layers with arpeggiator, filters, LFO and FX rack, make the library a tool for sound design and rhythmic composition.
