A hand-made wind harp by Dust Bowl Guitars whose built-in fan blows across its steel strings, for drones, clusters and cinematic sound effects.

The 12-string, non-fretted hollow-body instrument is based on the ancient Greek wind harp: a 120 mm PC fan near the bridge produces the wind, while steel-wound strings and electric guitar pickups shape the sound. Plucked with the fan off, it sounds similar to a baritone electric guitar; with the fan running it produces a lush, steady drone, and bowing, scraping or glissing the strings sets off unusual clusters and undulating drones. It was recorded with a close stereo microphone and the direct stereo pickup output, so you can dial in an electric or acoustic sound with the modular FX rack, including amp and speaker simulation.
