A modern tongue or slit drum with eight tongues and marimba-like warmth, recorded dry in the studio and in a large hall.

Slit drums belong to one of the oldest known instrument families and were first carved from hollow logs or wooden blocks in Africa thousands of years ago. The 14-inch, eight-tongue vermilion drum has a dreamy tone with a gently rounded attack and a subtly undulating decay; each tongue was sampled with mallets at centre and edge positions with an average of ten velocity layers and ten round robins, plus wooden sticks and brushes. A second session in a large, reverberant tile and stone hall provides a spacious sound for orchestral and atmospheric work, and the bonus content includes a small three-note slit drum, a wooden toy xylophone, pads and ambiences.
