The Ruler turns the twanging, wobbling sounds of rulers and tape measures into a playable tuned found percussion instrument for Kontakt.

A ruler braced over an edge produces a tone that gets lower and longer the longer its freely vibrating section is. Soundiron sampled two rulers with millimetre precision – 30 notes on the 6-inch ruler (15.24 cm) and 38 notes on the 12-inch ruler (30.48 cm) – plus taps, rattles and drops, while two self-winding tape measures add further effects and percussive articulations. In total there are more than 24 playable articulations, 20 ambiences designed from the recordings and 20 FX presets, controlled through an interface with LFO, filter, glide, arpeggiator and an FX rack with convolution reverb.
