The Drinking Piano is a massive, roughly hundred-year-old upright piano for Kontakt whose classic beer hall sound evokes the roaring 1920s and the pre-war 1930s.

The piano was recorded right up against the strings in a small, slightly reflective hall, giving it a fat, wide and present sound like a dry studio recording with a hint of live ambience. Worn key action, unreliable dampers, loose pedal mechanics and hardened felts give every key character, and because the corroded strings could no longer be tuned, the whole instrument sits a little over a half-step flat. This solid mahogany piano from the dawn of the 20th century can be played tuned or untuned in Sober and Drunk modes, complemented by bench creaks, plucks, pedal noises, releases, 34 ambiences and 20 FX presets.
