Street Erhu is a live-performance phrase library with more than 4,600 traditional Chinese erhu phrases, played by veteran street performer Qi Xin Huang on eight instruments from bass to treble.

The erhu is a traditional two-string violin dating back more than a thousand years, played with the bow passed between the strings and never losing contact – hence its distinctly sinuous style. In a dry studio, 1,328 bass erhu, 2,543 mid-range erhu and 341 treble erhu phrases were recorded, plus 398 bowing and fingering effects, along with 12 songs recorded live on busy city streets and 40 in an underground subway station. Songs can be switched via key-switches or a menu, while a 40-step phrase sequencer, legato with cross-fading, playback speed, pitch shifting, crescendo swells, 48 ambiences and 46 convolution impulses expand the possibilities.
