An experimental vocal percussion instrument: an ensemble beatboxed through long, hand-built PVC pipe “trumpets”, creating drones, horn blasts, percussive drum sounds and steam effects.

For the PVC Beatbox Ensemble, Soundiron gathered its percussion crew in a large glass and tile hall with lush natural reverberation and vocalised through maze-like tangles of PVC tubing and fittings – the result is best described as “steam drums”. You get drones, dirges, booms, horn blasts and drum kit-like percussive chuffs, thumps, hisses, pops and steam effects. The kick, snare, rimshot, three toms, hat/ride and crash articulations offer up to 10 round robins and 1 to 3 velocity layers; originally released by Tonehammer in 2009 as part of the Microhammer series, the library has been reprogrammed with more advanced features and a new special FX patch.
