The heart and soul of an old, run-down upright piano with rickety keys, a few broken strings and decades of hard use – just like the one at your grandma’s house.

Instead of shiny lacquer and pristine strings, this library captures the authentic beauty of a cheap, dusty, beat-up and long untuned upright that has become something of a cult classic in countless soundtracks, trailers, commercials and records. All 88 keys – including the broken strings – were recorded with 3 to 4 velocity layers, with added round robins on the two middle octaves in the mezzo-forte range, and every note has separate string and key release samples, including the typical wooden thud of the mechanism. Presets such as Tuned and Tamed, Untuned and Raw, Bright and Chipper or Soft and Muddy, pedal noises and atmospheric “Geriatrocity” pads and drones expand the palette.
