The versatility and distinctive character of the GEM Imperial II, a large Italian electronic organ made by GeneralMusic in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The Imperial II has two keybeds, a wide range of voice tabs, a dedicated bass voice section and drawbars controlling many voice functions. Soundiron recorded sustains and staccatos of its stock presets as well as its bass presets in a dry studio, using a pair of Neumann TLM 103 microphones in wide stereo plus a direct line input. Twenty evolving atmospheric pads were crafted from the source, joined by 20 FX presets. Glide for legato and portamento, an octave function, LFO, 13 filters, arpeggiator and an FX rack with convolution reverb let you shape the sound flexibly.
