A hand-crafted tuned percussion instrument by Bart Hopkin, with 25 chromatically tuned metal tines and resonating sympathetic strings.

This library captures a pentagonal sound box by instrument designer and sound sculptor Bart Hopkin, whose 25 chromatically tuned metal tines each have a pair of sympathetic strings spanning the sound board. Because these strings are tuned randomly, every plucked tine sets different string combinations ringing: a sharp, crisp water-drop note is followed by a soft, ghostly wash, reminiscent of the undamped top octave of a piano. Tine plucks and percussive hand slaps on the body were sampled with two stereo mic positions and are joined by 23 ambient effects, pads and drones, 20 effect presets and a modular effects rack with convolution reverb.
