Miago Trod is a lamellophone by instrument inventor Bart Hopkin that stands over five feet tall, with 22 threaded rods of varying lengths in two rows, tuned chromatically and played percussively. The fundamentals of the rods are subsonic, so the tone is made up of overtones: in the shorter upper segments one overtone stands out as the defining pitch, the longer lower segments sound an octave below, and striking either part makes both interact. The result is a mysterious, bassy and metallic timbre for scoring projects that need something truly unique, and alongside tuned and untuned articulations the library adds sound-designed textures, pads and tones.
