A custom-built instrument of wire, steel and wood, bowed, plucked and struck – for eerie horror textures and sound design.

Soundiron built Frendo themselves: five strings of rusted bailing wire stretched over galvanised steel brackets and plates, on a body of knotty pine with an old 24-inch bass drum, tuned via eye bolts. It was played with a violin bow, screwdrivers, wooden and rubber mallets, picks, hands and fingers, producing strikes, creaks, scrapes, shrieks, plucks, tremolos and vibratos. Frendo is a tuned percussion and string instrument in its own right and also provides material for stingers, trailers, reveals and post-production; for version 3.0 the samples were remastered and expanded with new ambient pads, soundscapes and FX presets.
