The rare sounds of the Soviet Elektronika EM-25, a polyphonic synthesizer with a strong focus on strings, organ and brass.

Built in the Soviet Union, the EM-25 has become something of a collector’s item: a polyphonic synthesizer with a four-octave keyboard and knobs for envelope, modulation and filter. Soundiron recorded its stock presets with sustains and staccatos in a dry studio through a pair of Neumann TLM 103 microphones and direct line in, then crafted over 40 evolving atmospheric pads from the source. Its rich string sounds in particular can enhance any composition; the Octave knob, vibrato, Glide for legato and portamento, LFO, 13 filters, arpeggiator and a complete FX rack with convolution reverb shape the sound further.
