A massive 20-foot-long tuned percussion instrument made of tubes with a four-octave range – somewhere between an organic synthesizer and tuned toms.

Gregg Stephens built the Cylindrum using the principle of open and closed air column resonance. The library contains the “dry small” variation, made from 1½-inch PVC water pipes tapped with the fingers, and “dry fat”, made from 4-inch corrugated ABS plastic tubes played with a ping pong paddle – both recorded in a dry studio and ideal for arpeggiated melodies and driving bass lines. The “wet” version, played with felt mallets on heavy rubber caps, was recorded in ultra-wide stereo in a glass and tile hall and delivers a more brutal transient impact for dramatic scoring. Velocity layering and extensive round robins, 13 ambiences, LFO, 12 filter types, arpeggiator, scale lock and an FX rack with convolution reverb complete the instrument.
