A hand-crafted idiophone made from Southeast Asian bamboo, similar to a marimba or angklung, deeply sampled as a playable instrument for Kontakt.

The Bamblong consists of a row of tuned bamboo logs acting as resonance chambers, with thin bamboo planks suspended above them as the playing surface; struck with mallets made from recycled rubber bicycle tyres, it sounds smooth and mellow yet crisp and clear, with a quick decay. It was recorded close and dry for maximum flexibility and in a large glass and stone hall for a bright, organic live sound that blends well with concert percussion. An average of 20 dynamic layers per note with 10 round-robin variations each, plus strikes and rolls with nylon jazz brushes, make for lively, expressive playing.
