A homemade single-string fretted instrument made from a wooden stick, a tuner and a tin can, with a twangy, metallic tone somewhere between banjo and mountain dulcimer.

The canjo is typically held like a guitar but can also be played on a table or lap, and its diatonic frets with a 12-note range make it perfect for folk melodies on the back porch or around a campfire. Soundiron pushed its sonic abilities to the limit, capturing picked, smooth and harsh plucks, slides, bowed sustains, staccatos and spiccatos. From this source material came a wide selection of ambient soundscapes, pads and drones. The result is just as comfortable playing traditional Americana as masquerading as a brittle viola, a cheap slide guitar or a melancholy erhu.
