Two experimental string instruments by Bart Hopkin with short, highly tensioned strings and a stainless-steel soundboard for a bright, crystalline tone.

Suspended directly from the strings, the stainless-steel sheet produces a long, shimmering tail of reverberation that adds depth and complexity to every note. Icicles features 26 short string segments vibrating in unison with the sheet for a pure, organically evolving shimmer; Pop Ice adds a thin Styrofoam sheet in direct contact with the strings, which produces a sharp, percussive pop when plucked before the resonance of the steel sheet takes over. Plucked strings, percussive strikes and glisses in two microphone perspectives with up to 8 round robins and 6 dynamic layers, plus 20 FX presets and atmospheric sound design content, offer plenty of creative freedom.
