A sampled bentside spinet, one of the precursors of the pianoforte, with a dark, quiet yet rich baroque sound.

Its name derives from the Italian “spinetta”, the 17th-century term for all quilled instruments. The spinet was a favourite household keyboard because it took up less room than a harpsichord and had a dark, quiet tone; by the 18th century it was found all over Europe for entertainment and musical instruction. Its timbre is rich and sustained, yet darker and less brilliant than a harpsichord, with a five-octave range.
