The Aztec death whistle, a ceremonial resonator made of kiln-fired clay, deeply sampled with its harsh, chilling sound like a dying breath.

The whistle was used in sacrificial rituals and warfare at the height of the Aztec empire in the 14th and 15th centuries; its two chambers are resonated by blowing into the top of the skull. Its tone is harsh, raspy and atonal, almost vocal, with a shrill, demonic quality that evokes dread on an instinctive level. Soundiron recorded sustains, flutter-tongues, staccatos and hand percussion in a dry studio with deep dynamic layering and 12 round robins, plus close and far recordings in a large hall and stingers with swells, crescendos and diminuendos. Dark ambiences, synth patches and FX presets created from the source give you plenty of material for horror productions.
