Nine faithfully reconstructed wind instruments from ancient Greece, from aulos and pan flute to salpinx and conch shell horn, as a playable Kontakt library.

Ancient Greek Winds captures the essence of the classical Hellenistic period with single and double-reed aulos from bass to alto, conch shell horns, the salpinx, pan flute and plagiaulos, all hand-crafted from wood, reeds, conch shells and bronze by an Athens-based historical research group led by Panagiotis Stefos, using period-accurate methods, materials and tools. Producer John Valasis recorded every instrument in precise detail with round-robin variations, multiple dynamics and voicings, from sustains and staccatos to true legato, dynamic expressions and effects. The interface offers legato response control, simulated portamento, an arpeggiator, step-sequenced filter and LFO systems and a modular FX rack, complemented by 20 ambiences designed from the source recordings. It is the melodic companion to Ancient Greek Strings and Ancient Greek Percussion.
