Ambius 1: Transmissions focuses on the dark, the cryptic and the subliminal: EVP recordings, insect swarms, winds that speak with eerie voices and bio-mechanical sounds sit alongside sweeping choruses and soaring melodies from cluster bells. All ambiences, drones, pads and evolving “synth” leads were built by hand from organic field and instrument recordings, without any synthesizers, ranging from simple, clean tonal leads to complex, constantly moving soundscapes. A pair of tempo-locked 32-step sequencers modulates cutoff and resonance of the lowpass, highpass, bandpass and vowel filters or, via a learn function, almost any other parameter.
