Twelve tuned steel, brass and bronze hand bells with a brightly or darkly resonant character, for melodies, percussive accents or pure sound effects.

Chroma Bells brings together twelve tuned hand bells, including English handbells, a Tibetan ceremonial bell, a Swiss cow bell, a Chinese brass temple bell and an Indian claw bell, each with its own bright or dark resonance. Single-note rings, sustaining rolls and special muted articulations were recorded with extensive velocity layering and round-robin variations for natural, dynamic playability. Three stereo microphone positions can be freely mixed: an ultra-close large-diaphragm pair for a dry, crisp and present tone, a wide-spaced overhead pair of pencil omnis for a spacious room sound and a pair of rustic tin can mics for a warm, mid-century lo-fi flavour.
