An experimental lute by instrument inventor Bart Hopkin whose steel bowl resonator holds a little water, creating dreamy, ever-changing sounds.

On Aquaalt, the bridge transfers the string vibrations directly to the flat bottom of a steel bowl in which a little water moves, producing constantly shifting resonances and unusually dreamy tones. Made of wood and metal, the instrument sits on a swaying stand so the player can rock it to keep the water moving. Soundiron recorded plucks, long and short bowing, sul ponticello and glissandos up and down with up to 8 round robins and 6 velocity layers per note, both close in stereo and via direct line input. Custom FX presets and ambient sounds created from the source material extend the possibilities.
