A custom wooden instrument with four very long strings and a buzzing bridge whose overtone spectrum keeps evolving, for an unusual, multifaceted sound.

Squiggly-Amejewar has four strings about seven feet long and a buzzing bridge of the kind known from the sitar, tamboura and the Kenyan obokano. It is played with a flat-sided slide whose contact with the strings shapes the buzz further, giving a tone that can turn raunchy yet sustains with a variegated, multifaceted character. Each note of the scale was recorded straight, without vibrato, and modulated through subtle slide movements, along with glissandos and effects with up to 8 round robins and 6 velocity layers. Three stereo microphone positions, close, pickups and contact mics, plus ambient sounds created from the source material extend the possibilities.
