Picante shapes tone and adds a touch of light distortion – a tone shaper with graphic EQ, developed in collaboration with Chris Warren, aka Superhoax.

The plug-in is a direct collaboration with Chris Warren, aka Superhoax, whose EchoThief impulse response library is the basis of Stagecraft’s modelling reverb of the same name, and it is adapted from his Picante Max for Live patch. Picante works as a tone shaper, graphic EQ and light distortion that adds grit or a soft fuzz; the full-range EQ gives you precise control while the limiters introduce subtle non-linearities for tonal depth. The combination of limiters and saturation produces a light push overdrive that brings out the grit in horns and vocals or, used more aggressively, pushes a tone to be hard but not heavily distorted. Variable Q lets you push the resonance towards ringing, for example shaping a saxophone into a thick, tinny sound that morphs into a ringing percussive blast.
