For Tales, a rare classical nylon-string concert guitar was sampled using only open strings, each tuned to a different pitch, resulting in a very warm, intimate sound with long natural sustain that you play like a piano. Four articulations (soft, hard, mute and harmonics), the blend of close and room microphones, brightness and the level of plucking noises let you tailor the guitar to your composition. You then choose one of 66 handcrafted textures based on FM and granular synthesis or sampled instruments and control brightness, key range, mod wheel, variation and contour. Delay for the guitar, the texture or both, plus a reverb ranging from studios of all sizes to vast ambiences, complete the sound.
