Rather than emulating a particular hardware compressor, Presswerk is, like Satin, a toolkit that draws ideas and inspiration from a number of sources. Besides sidechaining with ducking, an adjustable compression curve, soft clip and the usual ratio, knee, attack and release controls, it offers six special views for drums, vocals, bus, M/S, easy compression and limiting. The Dual Phase Rotator applies a radio broadcaster’s trick to reduce asymmetries in the signal, gain a little headroom and add bass weight, the saturation ranges from subtle warmth to tape-like overdrive, and the Mix controls allow parallel compression right inside the plug-in.
