BRUTE is a virtual drummer for guitar-heavy music from grunge to nu metal – loud, wild, edgy and cutting through the mix.

BRUTE was designed, recorded and processed to compete with layered walls of distorted guitars while maintaining character and detail. To achieve this, three sets of microphones were used: a vintage Sennheiser MD21 processed with a Manley Voxbox for the attack transients, vintage tube and ribbon overheads for the gritty character, and modern Schoeps microphones for a sound with as little colouration as possible. Smack emphasises attacks and transients, Grit crossfades from clean to dirty, and mix presets swap entire multi-bus effect chains. It includes 5 drum kits, 6 mix presets and 31 styles with 23 phrases each, for a total of 713 phrases.
