With its distinctive combination of wavetable synthesis and analogue filters, the Microwave shaped massive basslines, enigmatic wavetable modulations and silky pads that have inspired generations of musicians. The plug-in recreates the hardware in detail: the Waldorf ASIC co-designed by Wolfgang Palm with an internal sample rate of 250 kHz, each voice’s digital-to-analogue converters, the digital noise with all its artefacts, the original waveforms compared bit by bit, and the revision A and B analogue filters. Going beyond the hardware, the interface reveals many previously hidden aspects of the synthesis engine, lets you edit and create wavetables and your own waveforms, and offers additional randomisation modes as well as editable tuning and velocity tables.
