Reel ADT recreates the tape-based Artificial Double Tracking effect that Ken Townsend developed at Abbey Road Studios for John Lennon and the Beatles.

Two modelled tape machines – one for the source, one for the double – each with its own saturation, wow and flutter, pan and phase, create the impression of two distinct vocal tracks from a single take. As with the original technique, the double can run ahead of or behind the source and keeps fluctuating, which makes the effect rich and lively. Varispeed can be controlled manually, via MIDI, with an LFO offering 5 waveforms including random, or in sync with the tempo, and driving the decks harder adds tape saturation. Beyond vocals, Reel ADT also adds lush movement to stereo synth patches.
